It’s out with the new and in with the old. Retro clothing is back in style, grainy movies are being revived, and bringing the outside indoors is a major trend in the world of interior design. But we’re not talking about the knotty wood siding in your grandparents’ basement. Interior wood siding is back in a big way, with modern homeowners surrounding themselves in everything from smooth white finishes to weathered wood.
Northern Log Supply recently added barn wood to our line of Michigan wood products, which includes log siding and wood paneling. You may be wondering, “What’s the difference between our paneling and barn wood products?” Depending on the look you’re trying to achieve, one may be better suited for your project than the other. Learn more about our paneling and barn wood products below.
Paneling is a smooth wood product that has beveled edges on all four edges. It’s sometimes referred to as wall paneling, tongue and groove, car siding, planks, or pine board.
At Northern Log, you can get our cedar and pine paneling unfinished, but for a cheaper and faster installation, we recommend our pre-finishing stain options. A clear coat or stain can help bring out a wood’s natural beauty, with traditional colors like “Gunstock” and “Country White” being some of our most popular stain options. Custom colors can be great for an accent wall.
Barn wood’s name originated from the classic style barns. Barn wood usually has a dull or faded finish that can be used for both interior and exterior projects.
At Northern Log, we create antiqued, distressed barn siding with the same look of reclaimed wood, but without the worries. All of our barn wood is tongue and groove pine wood and comes in square edges for easy installation. Customers have their choice of textures and colors, including our weathered wood for an aged look, or circle-sawn wood to achieve a worn, rough sawn look.
